Invisalign refinements refer to the final fine-tuning stage of your orthodontic care. Even with advanced AI planning, individual human biology is unique. Some teeth, particularly the small lateral incisors or rounded canines, may experience biological lag. In the lag phase, tooth movement can stop for 20-30 days while dead tissue is removed and resorption of adjacent bone marrow occurs [3] (Asiry, 2018). This happens when the bone remodeling process moves more slowly than the plastic tray’s programmed path. Instead of forcing your teeth into trays that no longer fit perfectly, we hit the reset button. We buff off your old attachments and take a fresh digital map of your mouth. This allows us to create a “Phase Two” plan that targets only the remaining micro-movements. This ensures your roots are safely anchored in healthy bone before we call your treatment complete.

Often, yes. Refinement can involve the removal of your original attachments. We will bond new ones in different positions. These new attachments give the refinement trays the specific leverage needed for the final tooth movements.
While you can choose not to pursue refinement, we advise against it if your bite is not balanced. If your teeth look straight but do not correctly meet when you bite, you can be at risk of occlusal trauma. Occlusal trauma can involve chipped teeth, jaw pain, and the risk of your teeth shifting out of position.
