Bonding is composite resin we shade to your enamel and apply right onto the tooth, then harden with a light. For a single off-color tooth, the work is mostly about color. We layer a thin opaque base to block the darkness underneath, then build natural shades on top so it reads the same as its neighbors. It is closer to painting than drilling.
This matters because whitening gel only lifts surface stain. A tooth that is gray or yellow from an old root issue or an old filling will not bleach to match. Composite covers it instead. The tooth is still healthy underneath. We are just hiding the color you cannot bleach away.

Bonding rebuilds the tooth, but it is not armor. Go easy here: no chewing ice or pen caps, leave your fingernails alone, and never open packaging with your teeth.
Composite stains a bit more easily than porcelain. A rinse after coffee or wine helps, and a straw keeps dark iced drinks off the front teeth.
